Your Guide to Buying Local Produce in the Orange Region

The Orange Region is known for its abundance of fresh produce - the rich volcanic soils of Mount Canobolas, the high altitude and mild summer climate are the perfect cocktail for growing exceptional fruits, vegetables, flowers and wines.

Here are our top 4 picks to find the freshest produce in the Orange Region

Truffles, olive oil, fruit and vegetables, cheeses, meats and of course wine - you name it, we have it. Its all part of what makes the Orange Region a hub for quality produce.

1. Hillside Harvest

If you're after fresh, local produce straight from the source, Hillside Harvest is the place to go. This family-run orchard has been growing fruit for over 75 years, and their farmgate shop is just a short drive from Orange.

Step inside to find orchard-picked fruit, seasonal vegetables, local cheeses and meats, plus a collection of condiments and gift wares that make it hard to leave empty-handed. If you're in no rush, settle in with a coffee and a slice of apple pie made with fruit grown right on the property—best enjoyed with a view of the orchards.

Hillside Harvest also offers Pick Your Own experiences, with different fruits available depending on the season. Stonefruit, and berries signal summer, apples, pears and figs ripen as the weather cools, and the cherries explode during the last months of the year.

2. Agrestic Grocer

The Agrestic Grocer brings together the best of the region under one roof. Part grocer, part café, and part live music venue, it’s a spot where local producers, growers, and makers take centre stage.

The shelves are stocked with fresh produce, pantry staples, and everything in between, alongside local wines, spirits, and brews. The café menu is built around seasonal ingredients from nearby farms, making every meal a showcase of what’s grown and made in the region.

For something extra, check out their events calendar and book in for an evening of live music, local food, and great wine.

3. Markets

There's no place quite like a local, country farmers market. On the second Saturday of every month, the Orange Farmers Market takes over Robertson Park in summer and moves to the Naylor Pavilion when the weather cools. Rows of stalls are packed with fresh fruit and veg, cured meats, flowers, baked goods, olive oil, and more. Grab a coffee, chat with the growers, and soak up the atmosphere - Saturday mornings don’t get much better.

For a weekly dose of fresh produce, the East Orange Producers Market is the place to be. Tucked into a courtyard beside local favourite Bills Beans cafe, it runs every Saturday from 8am, bringing together local growers and makers with the best of what’s in season.

4. Millthorpe Providore

Set along a bustling, cobblestone-lined street in the historic village of Millthorpe, the Millthorpe Providore is a reflection of the town’s rich past and strong connection to local producers. Step inside and you’re met with friendly faces, the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and a cosy café space that feels like a local favourite.

A small adjoining room is stocked with specialty goods, from locally grown truffles when in season to artisan cheeses and salamis perfect for a weekend platter. Take your coffee outside, settle in at a streetside table, and soak up the quiet beauty of Millthorpe in the morning.

Shopping locally in the Orange Region isn’t just about finding fresh produce - it’s about supporting the people who grow and make it. Fruit picking, farmers markets, and farmgate stores offer a direct connection to the region’s producers, making it easy to enjoy food straight from the source. Truffles, olive oil, fruit and veg, cheeses, meats, and of course wine - you name it, we have it. It's all part of what makes the Orange Region a hub for quality produce. Plan your trip and experience it for yourself.
