Welcome to Ophir and Mullion Creek region
The Ophir and Mullion Creek region, located in the eastern area of the Cabonne Shire, is historically significant as the site of Australia’s first payable gold discovery, which ignited the gold rushes of the 19th century. Although little remains of the original mining site that once attracted over 2,000 miners, visitors can still explore abandoned gold mine tunnels, try their hand at gold panning, or enjoy a picnic or camping at the Fourth Crossing Picnic Area. Nearby, the Falls Waterfalls feature two tiers of cascading water, a swimming hole, and opportunities for fishing. The small rural community of Mullion Creek is located just ten minutes from Orange.
