4 Reasons We Love High Altitude Wines and You will too

In the world of winemaking, elevation is not just a number; it's a crucial factor that can elevate your wine-drinking experience to new heights. As the trend of high-altitude vineyards continues to grow, wine enthusiasts are discovering the unparalleled charm of cool-climate, high altitude wines – and for good reason.

  1. Orange, NSW is Australia’s ‘Coolest’ region: The Orange region is classified as ‘cool climate’. This means it has a longer cooler ripening period over the summer as opposed to the warmer regions in Australia.

  2. Unique Terroir: Its high elevation, combined with long warm days and cool nights, gives a gentler ripening ensuring fruit will develop intense fruit flavours. As a result, Orange region wines are particularly stylish with a unique intensity of flavour, great colour, balance, natural acidity, and fine tannins.

  3. Altitude: The Orange region is the only GI (Geographic Indication) that is defined by altitude, the lowest boundary starts at 600 metres above sea level and rises to 1,400 metres at its highest peak of Mt Canobolas. The highest vineyards are planted at around 1,100 metres.

  4. Worth the Journey: For wine lovers, the appeal of high-altitude wines is worth traveling for. Whether it's exploring the rugged landscapes of the Andes in Argentina, the Alpine slopes of Switzerland, or the rolling hills of the Orange region, NSW, high-altitude wines tell a story of the land, the climate, and the meticulous craftsmanship behind every bottle.
