Little places, Big stories: Carcoar

Little places, Big stories

The picture-perfect village of Carcoar is nestled in a small sheltered valley beside the meandering Belubula River. A true historic gem, it is the third-oldest settlement west of the Blue Mountains. With a spectacular backdrop of rolling green hills, it is easy to see why the area was a drawcard for early settlers. The town has been classified by the National Trust because of its large number of preserved 19th century buildings.

Belinda Satterthwaite’s creative space in Carcoar: Tomolly

Belinda is the definition of living the dream owning and operating her boutique retail shop Tomolly, in the quaint little village of Carcoar.

“Tomolly was a dream I had whilst operating a Millthorpe boutique accommodation business where I fell in love with interior styling, design and beautiful products for the home. It felt right to open my very own store and curate a style and love of beautiful things.”

After finding their dream home in Carcoar, housed in an Old Flour Mill circa 1855, Belinda and her husband relocated their family and retail store. Previously they lived in the nearby village, Millthorpe for twenty years where Belinda had been operating Tomolly for the last decade.

Belinda has a strong passion for Carcoar and she hopes that all visitors who take the time to turn off the main highway and find this hidden beauty will all have the same feelings and experience as her.

Top 3 things to do in Carcoar:

Belinda’s top tips for visiting the region are:

1. Take the back roads to the historic villages.

2. Enjoy the fabulous food and wine in the region. Tonic in Millthorpe and the Italian locanda, Antica Australis in Carcoar are my favourites.

3. Visit Carcoar Dam and Wind Farm.
